An Overview of the AAA Syracuse Mets Bullpen

Who is performing well? Who isn't? Who can make an impact in the MLB? and Injury Updates

Shintaro Fujinami

5.3 IP 15.88 ERA 3.34 WHIP 7 SO 13 BB

Fuji has been...well terrible at AAA so far. He still can't find the zone, velo and K's are still there but 20.6 BB/9 will not cut it.. It is still a small sample. Check out my thread on him:

Bryce Montes de Oca

60 Day IL

BMdO missed the 2023 season due to his second Tommy John surgery. The flame-thrower has high-end stuff as many Mets fans know. But there is concern that his unorthodox mechanics are unsustainable. No longer on the 40-man, he is expected back in Mid-2024.

Yacksiel Ríos

12.2 IP 2.84 ERA 1.50 WHIP 15 K 8 BB 3 SV

Ríos has mostly acted as the Mets AAA closer this year. The 30 year old MLB and WBC vet features a FB that touches 99, a Sweeper and high velo Change. If he can keep his walks down he could be an effective bullpen piece.

Eric Orze

13.1 IP 4.73 ERA 1.20 WHIP 17 SO 11 BB 1 SV

Orze always had high K% but the 26 year old is still waiting to make his debut. Orze has an elite Splitter and a rising Fastball but has struggled with walks. With his stuff he should get a call up at some point this year.

Josh Walker

11.1 IP 3.18 ERA 0.79 WHIP 13 K 5 BB 1 SV

Walker has gotten a long look in big leagues. He features a good Curveball and a Fastball-Sinker combo that touches 97. As long as he doesn't balk too much he could be a soild 6th or 7th inning option.

Nate Lavender

7.0 IP 3.86 ERA 1.86 WHIP 9 SO 7 BB

After a dominant Spring Training, Lavender was a lock to make his debut this year. Unfortunately, he will be out for the season due to Tommy John. Check out my thread on him - https://twitter.com/isaacgroffman/status/1747035372746334283

Jon Duplantier

10.1 IP 7.84 ERA 2.42 WHIP 14 SO 14 BB

Duplantier was signed as a Minor League Free Agent this offseason. The 29 year old has brief MLB experience as a starter but has only pitched in relief for Syracuse. He has a good Curveball and elite extension.

Justin Jarvis

14.0 IP 3.86 ERA 1.36 WHIP 9 SO 7 BB

The Mets got Jarvis in the Mark Canha trade, mostly a starter he has made 3 relief appearances in 5 games for both AA and AAA. He has elite Fastball charecteriscs at low velo, and three average secondaries.
